Aiguestortes National Park is located in the majestec Pyrenees Mountain range of Spain. Established in 1955, it encompasses 40 square miles. Wonderous sights abound for the traveler to Aiguestortes National Park and it is a popular draw for natives as well as tourists from around the world. Aiguestortes National Park gets the name Aiguestortes, meaning “twisted waters,” from two rivers, Riu Escrita and Riu de Sant Nicolau, that went their way through the grounds. There are well over one hundred lakes within the area. The streams and rivers are habitats for many creatures, such as frogs, muskrats, newts, toads and trout.

For anyone that enjoys steep inclines, jagged peaks and rocky cliffs, the Aiguestortes National Park should definitely be included on the travel intinerary. The Romanesque Trove is nearby in the Vall de Boi, where Romanesque churches from as early as the eleventh century can be found. They are actually considered a collection of art. A brisk walk can get the blood pumping and the heart will pound to see such beauty.

The mountainous region has a broad variety of wildlife for visitors to marvel at while passing through. Bearded vultures circle high over head along with capercaillie. Marmots and goats are other types of animals that can be experienced up close during a visit to the park.

Aiguestortes National Park provides an entertaining, breathtaking view any time of the year. While the warmer months may be most enjoyable for some, snowshoeing and hiking is invigorating during the winter months as well. It is easy to travel to the park via car or other modes of public transportation.
